The Best Family Hikes Around Notre-Dame du Pré

Table of Contents

Here are the best family hikes around Rocher du Glaisy, from the easiest to the most challenging.

The Tour du Glaisy: A Short Loop

Perfect for kids, this marked trail starting at the campground winds around the Glaisy climbing rock. Start and finish at 1,550 m, elevation gain of less than 40 m, duration 45 to 60 minutes, distance 1 km. Note: There is a small ladder with two rungs along the trail—it’s very easy to climb and fun. Perfect for children ages 4–5 and up.

The Tour du Glaisy: Grand Loop

For active families! This forest hiking trail has some wonderful surprises in store: a lookout point with an incredible view of the valley and the Col de la Madeleine, the Glaisy climbing rock, the historic Pravin hill with its stone alpine chalets, and Mont Blanc in plain sight. The hike starts at the Glaisy campground; it’s marked with wooden signs, has an elevation gain of about 200 meters, takes 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours, and covers a distance of 3–4 km.

The Couais and Pravin

A lovely year-round hike. A beautiful walk in both summer and winter (snowshoes), featuring pleasant stretches through the forest and wonderful sights: the ancient Montagnette des Couais, the beautifully preserved hamlet of Pravin, and remarkable views of Mont Blanc and La Lauzière. The hike starts at 1,300 m at the Col du Tra, with an elevation gain of about 150 m; it takes 2 hours and covers 4 km. There are three possible return routes depending on your preference and energy level: from the short loop to the route via Pravin (+45 minutes).

Hike to the abandoned hamlet of Hauteville and the waterfall

A hidden gem of a hike, rarely visited. It’s one of the well-kept secrets of our region. Enjoy beautiful views of the Quermoz, explore the hamlet of Hauteville—where time seems to have stood still—and see the Chaille Waterfall, where the turbulent waters of the Nant Gelé flow into the river. The hamlet is accessible only on foot. The hike starts in the village of Notre Dame du Pré, with an elevation gain of about 500 meters, lasting 4 hours, and covering a distance of 7 km. Return via the communal meadow and Bois Renaud.

These four hikes are just a starting point. Around our campsite, family days never quite turn out the way we planned—and that’s often the best sign. Between hikes, climbing routes, and scrambling sessions on the rocks—not to mention happy hour around the fire pit or roasting marshmallows as the day winds down, before or after the recovery session to wind down—that’s what a Stüga family day is all about!
