There are names that sound different when you say them out loud. El Capitan. The north face of the Matterhorn. The Verdon. The Via delle Plaques. The Spit was born out of that world. Its name comes from the piton—that small, discreet, and indispensable anchor point forged into the rock, the one you count on when things get serious. Like the piton, the Spit Ecolodge is an anchor point for the Stüga Ecolodges.
Climbing at the Heart of the Atmosphere
Inside, the major routes are right there. Not just as catalog-style decorations, but as a tangible presence. Portraits of pioneers who invented free climbing even before it had a name. Evocative artifacts. On the shelves, guidebooks to legendary routes. On the walls, a map of Rocher du Glaisy and its 250 routes, some of which are just a two-minute walk away.
The Comfort of Independence
The large picture window frames the Tarentaise Valley and Mont Blanc like a painting. The pellet stove hums softly. The small built-in kitchen is right there, a far cry from the camp stove set up on the ledge. The wood-fired sauna is heating up. The bed is large, the linens are beautiful, and the silence is absolute. La Spit isn’t an ecolodge for those who watch climbing from afar. It’s a refuge for those who understand that climbing isn’t just a sport—it’s a way of being in the world.

A fully equipped kitchen
Here, there’s no oven, toaster, or microwave! Two stovetops, a fondue pot with its burner, two candle-powered raclette machines, and a few utensils so you can cook for yourself.
An eco-friendly bathroom
A sink, a nice mirror, a shower, and homemade soaps. But for hot water, you’ll have to rely on the sauna—and your ability to mix the water to get the right temperature.

The Tarentaise region is brimming with talented small-scale producers—often organic—who specialize in cheese, cured meats, vegetables, and preserves. Our various meal options feature our finest selection of locally sourced products. Please include this request when you make your reservation, at least 2 days before your visit.

Activities: Summer or winter, set out on a guided adventure
In both winter and summer, your ecolodge is the starting point for many activities. And everything else is never far away. Contact us to try your hand at rock climbing, mountain biking, ski touring with a guide, exploring the flora and fauna, or even rafting, paragliding, bobsledding…!
Important!
In winter, access is only possible on foot, with snowshoes, or on cross-country skis (30 min, 200 m elevation gain). Feel free to contact us for more information.
