Immerse Yourself in Nature: The Forest
Humboldt did it with a machete, notebook in hand, as he traveled upstream along the Orinoco. Thoreau did it on foot, alone, with two years’ worth of provisions and the conviction that the forest had more to teach him than any university. John Muir slept in the snow in Yosemite for the sheer pleasure of waking up in it. And Francis Hallé, aboard the Radeau des Cimes, flew over the tropical forests from the canopy to prove that the world from above had not yet revealed all its secrets.
The Canopée Ecolodge was born out of an observation: we drive past forests without ever really stopping. It was time to do something about it.
A nature lover's lodge
You enter through the airlock, and something changes immediately. You leave behind the scent of larch resin and step into the warmth of the stove. The wood crackles softly. The light filters in differently here: soft, green, and vibrant. This is an ecolodge in the Rhône-Alpes region that feels less like a place to stay and more like a well-equipped naturalist’s cabin: the kind of place where you set down your things, pull out your notebook, and start seeing things differently, while your coffee steams.
Equipment to Make the Most of It
The living room opens onto a huge picture window in the heart of the forest. The trees are right there, close by, with their rustling sounds, their shifting shadows, and their unobtrusive inhabitants. As you settle into the cozy bed facing this window onto the living world, the question of what to do with your day takes on a different meaning. The traditional sauna is there for the end of the day, when the body needs warmth and silence. The small, fully equipped kitchen is ready for simple meals cooked with local ingredients. And outside, just a two-minute walk away, lies the Rocher du Glaisy with its 250 climbing routes, or Mont Jovet, for those who also want to explore the vertical world.
Looking for an ecolodge in Rhône-Alpes that truly feels like the forest, that breathes, that’s alive at all hours. That’s La Canopée.
A small, eco-friendly wooden cabin with a huge picture window, a wood-pellet stove, and just the essentials—so that luxury is all about time, space, and nature.
A big bed makes all the difference. Making sure it's made and that you feel welcome the moment you walk in—that's our way of taking care of you.
Light the fire, let the warmth envelop you, feel the chill of the outdoors. Close your eyes, open up, or talk about your day. A moment just for you.
After a good night's sleep, no matter what time in the morning, what a treat it is to know that a delicious breakfast is waiting for you: mountain bread, cake, fruit juice, cheese, cereal, fruit compote…
Here, there’s no oven, toaster, or microwave! Two stovetops, a fondue pot with its burner, two candle-powered raclette machines, and a few utensils so you can cook for yourself.
A sink, a nice mirror, a shower, and homemade soaps. But for hot water, you’ll have to rely on the sauna—and your ability to mix the water to get the right temperature.
Whether you choose the takeout appetizer basket—featuring craft beers and delicious local products—or the generous tasting platters bursting with the flavors of the Tarentaise, treat yourself any time!
The Tarentaise region is full of talented small-scale producers—many of whom are organic—whether they make cheese, cured meats, vegetables, or preserves. Our meals feature the very best of these locally sourced products.
Please include this information when you make your reservation and/or at least 2 days before your arrival so we can serve you better.
