From the Stüga base camp, you can do just about anything.
At an altitude of 1,550 meters, at the foot of the Rocher du Glaisy in the Tarentaise, the site is nestled in the heart of a region brimming with climbing routes, hiking trails, slopes, whitewater, Baroque villages, and cheeses that are well worth the detour. Five worlds to explore depending on your mood, the season, or your energy level at the moment—five ways to experience the Tarentaise.
Le Glaisy features 250 routes, 18 sectors, a forest of larch and spruce trees, and snow-capped peaks as a backdrop. Routes range from beginner-level 3 to challenging 8a. It’s a family-friendly yet technically challenging site, ideal for independent climbing or for learning the ropes with a guide.
The trails start right from the plateau, winding through alpine meadows, forests, and open ridges. The viewpoints take in the Tarentaise, the Lauzière, and the Vanoise. In winter, the same landscape is silently transformed as you walk through it on snowshoes.
In winter, the Stüga site is a major starting point for ski touring at the foot of Mont Jovet, offering everything from easy outings to beautiful high-altitude tours, far from the hustle and bustle of the resorts. For those who prefer the slopes, La Plagne is a ten-minute drive away, with direct access to the Paradiski ski area.
Mountain biking has plenty of room to thrive here: forest trails and technical singletrack. The Tarentaise’s whitewater rivers offer rafting sections, and the marked trails—such as the ridge trails—can become full-fledged trail running routes for those who wish.
The valley’s Baroque villages, the winding road from Moûtiers (about thirty turns, with deer and foxes as a bonus), and the local cheese makers. Just a stone’s throw from the site, you’ll find refined, thoughtful cuisine rooted in local ingredients. These are great spots that complement the Stüga bistro, perfect for a more gourmet dining experience.
A day in Stüga is rarely just one thing at a time: climbing in the morning, hiking in the afternoon, and local cheeses to round out the day. Not to mention the sauna at the end of the day. Here, the mountains are bountiful, the landscape is vibrant, and the area is designed so you can enjoy it to the fullest—without having to choose between adventure and relaxation, between untamed nature and the tranquility of the surroundings. All that’s left is to come and see for yourself.
